Power woes for the people of Jammu shall increase in the ensuing summer season asthere is a shortfall of 350-400 MW ofpower in J&K according a latest communication accessed by The Publish news.According to the letter, a copy of which has been accessed by The Publish news the concerned quarters of the PDD Department have been directed to curtail Powerat regular intervals so as to meet the shortfall in power which shall lead to periodic power cuts in the ensuing summer season. The communication prohibits any overdraw or extra purchase of power even during peak hours when the consumption of power is maximum and it also prohibits any purchase of instantpower from Indian Energy Exchange(IEX) which is the major power tradingcompany of India.
The average demand of Power of Jammu region is 800 MW while during the peak summers, the demand increases to 950 MW, however the average demand of Kashmir region is 1150 MW which increases to 1300 MW during the peak winter season. According to various documents accessed by The Publish, the total revenue realisation from Kashmir region during the year2015-16 was Rs. 864 Crore including Ladakh while the revenue collected byJKPDD from Jammu was Rs 1074 Crore. While the revenue realisation if more from Jammu, more power is being supplied to Kashmir. It is for the JKPDD to introspect that why revenue realisation is poor from Kashmir Valley and why people of Jammu shall be made to suffer during the scorching summer heat.
